Whiskey Blue (previously Sadler's), Bedford Place

Large modern bar area with angular tables, some quite high. This is a Brewhouse & Barbecue, so there is a strong focus on food, mainly meat, served as burgers, and at prices over £10. Loud music. It doesn't feel like a pub, more like a fast food chain. The beer is supplied by Sadler's brewery, who have two outlets in the Midlands, plus this one here, which is part owned by the nearby Rockstone pub, which, interestingly, also has a focus on burgers. Students like burgers, and this is in the Southampton student triangle.

The regular display of beers

Nine cask beers on offer. If you're interested in trying a Sadler's beer, come here. If you like expensive burgers, come here.

The monthly specials

Sadler's replaces Marshals Bar which closed in Aug 2015 after only been open for a year. Sadler's brew over a hundred different beers in a modern American craft beer influenced style. The family owned company used to brew from their pub, the Windsor Castle Inn in Stourbridge in the Victorian period, but stopped in 1927. They started up again in 2004, and the brewing has been popular, so they have moved the brewery into larger dedicated premises on a trading estate.

Sadler's has closed. It has been replaced by Whiskey Blue, which I have not yet visited.

The Sadler's brewery was taken over in 2019 by Hawkshead Brewery (who are owned by distributors Halewood International), and the bar was closed down in Jan 2020. Whiskey Blue opened in March 2022.
