I came here shortly after it opened in Feb 2018, and really enjoyed the chat I had with the co-owner, Steve. Somehow I didn't write it up (or did and lost it, that does sometimes happen to me - grrrr). I popped in again a few weeks ago, and still didn't get around to write anything. Pressure on time with other activities and commitments. Anyway, this is a placeholder until I get around to writing up a review. In short, I really like this place. I like that children are allowed.
In again. Met Andy the business man of the partnership.

Chrissie in a comfy chair |
Popped in briefly with Chrissie. We like the place. Typical modern craft beer bar. Compact place with choice of both cask and keg beers. All from micro or craft brewers. As seems to be the way these days, the keg taps are on the wall behind the bar and the keg clips are so small it's hard to read. There is a chalkboard menu on the wall which is easier to read.
Beer menu |
The keg beers, which are the majority, tend to be the American hop forward style, which is mainly what a customer coming into a craft beer bar would be expecting and looking forward to.
Our choices |
We had Werrrd! and King Street. Served chilled. We preferred the King Street.
There are various board games that folks can use. And there are a few snacks. The ceiling has interesting lights. Though as the ceiling is quite low in the bar area, any discussion there seems to become quite loud, and it can be difficult to hear your own conversation. There is seating outside, but these days that tends to be in all pubs and bars, where the smokers go.
All in all an OK place that I do like to visit. Shirley used to have some good backstreet pubs, though these are diminishing, and the ones that remain are not as cool as they used to be. And the high street pubs are rather poor, including the Wetherspoon. So having this and Overdraft and Witches Brew as places to drink in the high street is very useful indeed.
