Coop Micro Bar, Hedge End

New craft bar just outside Southampton, owned by Tap It Brewery of Southampton. Has three cask pumps, but one was off, and one was serving cider, so only one cask beer actually offered. Most of the taps are for Tap It's own beers, only three were not Tap It, and none of those were local.  High tables and backless benches one side, coffee tables and low benches in the other.

Food is platters, meat, cheese, or vegan. No vegan available on my visit, so I had the cheese, which was generous, fresh, varied, and very tasty. Enough for two to share.

The two boys behind the bar are cool and laid back, and are happy to help, researching answers they don't know themselves, and checking that the customers are happy. A sample tray of three 1/3 pint beers is offered for just under £7.   My sample tray (one pint) and cheese platter was just under £20 - not cheap. But the cheese platter was well displayed and very tasty, and could easily be shared by two people.

Ambience

This is a decent bar, worth driving out to Hedge End to check it out. During my visit a group of grown up girls had a gathering, and were happily chatting away and drinking fizzy wine. Various mature males came in for a beer, and mostly sat on the benches outside. There is a good vibe about the place. Grown up, but fun. There is occasional live music, usually just one person and a guitar set up by the bar, sometimes a duo.

Date: Nov 2021. Score: 8

5 Lower Northam Road
Hedge End

Wed - Fri: 3pm to 11pm
Sat - Sun: Noon to 11pm

Food. Children accepted, though there seems little facility for them. Dogs are welcomed and apparently offered biscuits and water. I think kids might like biscuits as well (kid's biscuits, not dog biscuits!).
