Proper pub. Corner location purpose built Victorian pub. Three casks. Occasional food (Sunday lunch). Live bands. Family friendly. Well run, tidy interior. Bare wood. Good ambience. Large beer garden. This is a decent place, yet we've only visited twice because it's tucked away in a location we never pass.
Independent. Family friendly. Three casks.

As of July 2017 the pub is closed for refurbishment. Opens again 4th August 2017.
Open now, and the internal deco is in the currently popular cool grey. Each to their own but it feels a little drab and characterless to me. The sparse decoration gives the place an unfinished feel, and the echoing acoustics don't help, especially when the juke box is turned up loud. Three pumps, one serving cider, the other two serving Otter and Doom Bar. Rolls are offered at £1.30. They are freshly made so there is a slight wait, and there is a lot of sweetcorn in the tuna (and apparently also in the chicken according to the guy at the next table).
It doesn't quite have the ambiance I remember, but is a clean place, and is well used by the locals. I like that it's family friendly, and that it puts on live acts. It is a decent place, that I can see myself checking out now and again, but my personal preference is for the nearby Millers Pond on general ambiance, noise level, beer choice, and facilities for the children.

You should come by for another visit. We have a lovely bunch of regular locals and always a great time on band nights.
